On the other hand, the oil in eukaryotes is already in the form of emulsified droplets, stabilized by a unique protein/phospholipid membrane. Those natural oil droplets that can be
- How are oil bodies extracted from pumpkin seeds?
- Oil bodies from pumpkin seeds were extracted, isolated, characterised using optical microscopy, zeta potential and particle size distribution obtained. During microscopic analysis, the oil bodies were more intact and in an integrated form at the time of extraction but were ruptured with time.
- Can oil bodies be extracted from pumpkins?
- Oil bodies can be extracted, isolated and from pumpkins using an aqueous extraction method and may prove to be a useful new source of lipids for application in patterning therapeutics for clinical use. Copyright © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
- Are pumpkin seeds a viable source of vegetable oil in Uganda?
- The obtained results in this study suggested that pumpkin seeds are a viable source of vegetable oils for commercial extraction in Uganda. With a comparison of extraction rates from other oil sources in Uganda such as cotton (15%-20%) and soybeans (19%-21%), the study implies that pumpkin seeds can be a viable alternative.
- What is Pumpkin Seed Oil (PSO)?
- Pumpkin seed oil (PSO), a rich source of nutrients, is extracted from the seeds of different pumpkin varieties for food and medicines. This article aims to provide an evidence-based review of the literature and to explore the extraction technologies, nutritional properties, and biological activity of PSO.
- How much iodine is in a Japanese pumpkin?
- The mean value of iodine content in Japanese pumpkin seeds is 26.45 mg I2/100 g. The results were analyzed statistically using one way ANOVA at a 5% level of significance. The mean values of oil content, acid value, iodine value, specific gravity and refractive index for Japanese type pumpkin were found to be 35.67%, 2.24 mg KOH/g, 26.45 mg I2/100 g, 0.9126 and 1.47, respectively.
- Does pumpkin seed oil have a long shelf life?
- The obtained low acid value indicated that pumpkin seed oil is suitable for consumption and has long shelf life (Hasan et al., 2019). However, the acid value obtained in this study was below the recommended values of 10 mg KOH/g oil for virgin palm oil and 4 mg/g oil for coconut oil (FAO/WHO, 1999).
